 Partizan is Serbia’s best basketball team for two decades now, and has proved it this year yet again. It again won the national cup and the NLB League.
- All that makes the realm of memories somehow fades but it does bolster one’s confidence because that is something that cannot be taken away from one. We teach our players to immediately forget an achieved success and also that every success should not dull but boost their desire for new trophies. The game in Zagreb was spectacular and glamorous owing to the way in which Cibona scored the three-pointer and how we reciprocated forthwith. And, because of the way in which Cibona scored the three pointer, and we responded without delay. It’s hard to find such a rapid overturn of events and this crossing over from greatest happiness to greatest misery and vice-versa even in ancient drama. This match is one of those that will be remembered for a long time to come, says Duško Vujošević.
Partizan made it among the top four Euroleague clubs. Having qualified to go to Paris, Partizan has proven it can come to grips with the best of teams in Europe, as both matches were lost during extra time.
- When playing against strong opponents you must prepare for the match and by doing so you improve your game so that after the match you are a stronger team than before it. Despite such unfortunate defeats, even after Paris (defeats) we are a stronger team (than previously), and if I may be permitted to say so these were the best and the most honorable defeats. I had thought that the interest and respect from our public would last up until the first defeat, but this nation has demonstrated that this is not so, that it is not merely an impressionable mob. They have appreciated that – given the budget we have – in the matches with the strongest teams we have demonstrated we were not inferior and that they think this is indeed worthy of their respect.
To Paris and back, as was the case with all the other matches, Partizan traveled by Jat, and Vujošević stated his great gratitude over this.
- So many games and destinations would have been impossible to make had we not flown by Jat. A time has come when it is impossible to be successful if traveling arrangements were not well organized, without the help of others that will organize everything in the best possible manner. For this reason, I have to say that Jat, too, had a part in our success, said Coach Vujošević.
According to him, the successes of the national team and Partizan are indeed enviable, but that it would be wrong to think that something like this could be repeated with ease.
- Personally, I think this is the result of hard work and self-sacrifice, but also that this, too, does not reflect the real situation. The achieved results exceed the current quality level. For this reason, the public must exercise patience and give time to those leading the teams to create through hard work such teams whose results would be rooted in real quality and not in momentary success.
In view of Dušan Vujošević, the favorites at the World Football Championship 2010 are always Brazil, and England and Argentina with Messi, but that he hoped for surprises and Serbia’s success.
- I believe Serbia will record a good result because it has a number of players playing major roles in big European clubs at large European competitions. Also, the head coach has created such an atmosphere in which no one is on the team for his good looks, as all have been called in because they can best contribute to the national team effort. Perhaps a mid-field specialist is missing, but personally I would be happy if one of the younger players from a home team would excel on this occasion, said Vujošević. |
